Richard Dyers Star Theroy

Richard Dyers 'Star Theroy' came from his thought that their was a distinct differance between pop starts appose to pop performers. He believe pop performers where not nessicerily famous but sang whereas a pop start was not just all about the music.

He believe that a pop star was then constructed into what the industry believed would sell or what magazines want to be on their magzine. Pop starts have their own image that audience then also imitate or even cultural values they believe poeple will then follow.

Pop stars can be seen as actors - images are constantly changed to match ideologies of the time - getting publicity enables them to remain in the spotlight
For example, it could be said that Madonna has stayed in the public eye for so long due to her changing image, publicised divorce with Guy Ritchie, and adoptions as well as her following of the religion "Kaballah."
